Carlson named athlete of month
Lady Wildcat basketball star Tyler Carlson started the 2010 calendar year with a bang. She led her team in every game during the month of January, which eventually took her team to the state playoffs. For this, she was recently named January Bryan County Athlete of the Month.

Sports briefs for March 15
The 30th Annual Robert Sapp Baseball Camp is accepting applications for its summer session to be held at the Richmond Hill Recreation Complex in Richmond Hill. The camp is May 24-28, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and is for boys ages 7-14. Six year olds may attend if they are skilled enough to play with the seven year old groups. Redskins beat Groves, Montgomery in tourney
 The BCHS baseball team (2-5, 0-2) traveled to Claxton Friday night for a region tilt with the Tigers of Claxton High. Fans saw a nail biting pitcher’s duel before the host Tigers pulled out a 3-1 win over the visiting Redskins. However, the ‘Skins broke their losing streak the following day with two non-region wins.

Richmond Hill High School senior Matt Wyatt signed a letter of intent March 1 to play Division III football for Averett University in Danville, Virginia, where he is the recipient of multiple academic scholarships.

Wildcats look strong on track
Coach Levi Sybert is predicting a successful year for his Wildcat track and field team. Last year, the team saw nine athletes earn the right to compete at state. This was highlighted by a second place state finish in the 800 meter race by Shaquille Walker. Walker, who is ranked seventh in the state for the 800, is one of many returning athletes this year. The Richmond Hill High School boys and girls soccer teams have started their Region 3-AAA schedule in dominating fashion over the weekend. Thomson and West Laurens proved to be little competition to the Wildcats, with big wins for Richmond Hill in all four games.

DNR advisory council to meet
BRUNSWICK — The Georgia Coastal Management Program's coastal advisory council will have its winter 2010 meeting from 10 a.m.-noon Thursday, March 18, at the Coastal EMC in Midway. The CAC quarterly meetings inform council members and the public about coastal management activities.
