Rescued pelicans nesting in Georgia

BRUNSWICK - Some brown pelicans rescued from the Gulf oil spill last summer and released in Georgia not only returned to the state this spring but are nesting and raising young here.

Challenger Soccer Camp at Hendrix Park

Bryan County children attend the third annual Challenger Sports Soccer Camp at Hendrix Park. Coaches Ashley Whiteley and Danny Smith of England are two of more than 1,800 soccer coaches who come to the United States every summer for eight weeks and work on developing young American soccer athletes. Richmond Hill's Zach Broome made the University of South Carolina football team as a walk-on earlier this year and will be on the Gamecocks roster in 2011. That apparently makes Broome the first player from Richmond Hill High School to play on a Southeastern Conference team. Broome, who is 6-foot-3 and weighs 205 pounds, will be at wide receiver for South Carolina.

Wildcats fall short

The Richmond Hill Wildcats hosted the Effingham County Rebels Friday and got sucker punched 24-20 en route to their third consecutive loss. The Wildcats nearly pulled out a win on a 92-yard drive late in the 4th quarter but came up three yards short of the winning touchdown as time expired on the clock.
