Simerly leads Stingrays to NSA title

The 18U Stingrays fast pitch softball team won the National Softball Association state championship for the second year in a row in Dalton on July 10-11. Lauren Simerly of Richmond Hill, doubled in two runs to clinch the NSA State Championship and also was winning pitcher. The Stingrays will travel to Chattanooga on July 25-29 to participate in the NSA World Series.

Matthews gets first minor league start

Former Richmond Hill High School left hander Kevin Matthews got his first minor league start July 9. The June 6 first-round pick of the Texas Rangers, now with the Arizona League Rangers, pitched a scoreless inning against the Arizona League Diamondbacks. He walked one and struck out one.

Hendrix Park 12U All-Stars headed to GRPA state tournament

The Hendrix Park 12U All-Stars placed second in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District 2 tournament held June 25 -27 in Baxley. The team will head back to Baxley July 6-8 for the GRPA state tourney.

Challenger Soccer Camp at Hendrix Park

Bryan County children attend the third annual Challenger Sports Soccer Camp at Hendrix Park. Coaches Ashley Whiteley and Danny Smith of England are two of more than 1,800 soccer coaches who come to the United States every summer for eight weeks and work on developing young American soccer athletes. Fishy Invite sees RHHS runners fare well

This past Thursday, the Richmond Hill High School Cross Country team hosted their 5th annual Fishy Invitational. With pristine running conditions from mid-afternoon until the late evening, 511 runners from 29 different schools throughout the coastal empire attended the meet.

Wildcats fall short

The Richmond Hill Wildcats hosted the Effingham County Rebels Friday and got sucker punched 24-20 en route to their third consecutive loss. The Wildcats nearly pulled out a win on a 92-yard drive late in the 4th quarter but came up three yards short of the winning touchdown as time expired on the clock.

Lady Redskins fall to Vidalia

It took nine innings to decide the winner and unfortunately for the Lady Redskins the Vidalia Softball team claimed the 9-6 win. Bryan County High School's late inning game was then followed by an 8-0 shutout loss to Vidalia during the first round of the Region 2-AA playoffs held Thursday.
