BCHS track team celebrates good season
The Bryan County High track team gathered together at school on Wednesday, May 18 with head coach Blake Nesmith and assistant coach Mario Mincey to celebrate another successful season and several tracksters were recognized for their outstanding efforts and improvements from the 2011 season.
"You only get one shot at life"
Richmond Hill's Zach Broome made the University of South Carolina football team as a walk-on earlier this year and will be on the Gamecocks roster in 2011. That apparently makes Broome the first player from Richmond Hill High School to play on a Southeastern Conference team. Broome, who is 6-foot-3 and weighs 205 pounds, will be at wide receiver for South Carolina.

The Bryan County High School Lady Redskins finished tied for fifth place at the girls Class A state track and field meet, which took place over the weekend in Albany.
Boy catches big fish
Hunter Owens, 9, of Richmond Hill caught a 70.2- pound cobia on the Annie Girl out of Orange Beach, Ala., on April 23 while on his spring break. He caught several large fish during the trip, but this was the biggest.
Samantha Howard named All-GCAA
Former Bryan County High School softball standout Samantha Howard was recently named first-team All-Region by the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association.

JEKYLL ISLAND - Authorities at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center say they've decided to euthanize Griffin, a sea turtle they say has touched the hearts of employees and visitors during the more than three years he has lived there.
Walker wins state title in 800
Richmond Hill High School senior Shaquille Walker won his second consecutive state 800 title Friday at the boys' state Class AAAA track meet in Jefferson. Last year, Walker won the 800 in Class AAA.
Lady Wildcats fall 6-0 to Whitewater in second round
The Richmond Hill High School girls' soccer team fell 6-0 to No. 2-ranked Whitewater on Tuesday in the second round of the state Class AAAA playoffs. The game was played at Wildcat Field in Richmond Hill.
Four Wildcats qualify for Class AAAA track meet
Different classification, same result. Defending state 800 champ Shaquille Walker won his fourth straight region title at the Region 2-AAAA track and field meet April 22-23 in Statesboro. Walker's previous three titles were in Region 3-AAA. His time of 1:52.71 at the 2-AAAA meet was nearly1 15 seconds faster than that of the runner up. Lady Wildcats romp to first-round win
The Lady Wildcats made short work of their opponent in the first round of the girls Class AAAA state soccer tournament Tuesday, beating Jonesboro High 10-0 under the GHSA mercy rule. .
