Bryan County High School earned its first win of the early season Thursday with a 3-2 victory over visiting Long County. Skeebo Carter went the distance on the mound for the Redskins and allowed only 5 hits in the winning effort. Bryan County had seven hits on the day with Alex Covington (2 for 2, two 2Bs, 2 runs) and Shane Dillon (2 for 2, RBI) leading the way at the plate.
Virginia signee Kevin Matthews threw a no-hitter and Richmond Hill blanked cross-country rival Bryan County 12-0 in five innings on Tuesday in Pembroke in the 2011 season opener for both teams.
It wasn't even close.
Richmond Hill finished its long journey through the ranks of Region 2-AAAA on Saturday by defeating Statesboro 52-48 in the championship game. It was the Wildcats fourth consecutive winning game of the tournament that started with them as the sixth seed.
Statesboro's JaQwan Raymond (18 points) tied the score after being fouled attempting a 3-point shot, The Blue Devil senior standout stole an inbound pass and after he made all three free throws, what had looked like a likely Richmond Hill victory turned in to what looked like a likely overtime period.

Three players scored in double figures to help lead Richmond Hill High School to a 62-40 win over Greenbrier in the first round of the Region 2-AAAA tourney on Monday at South Effingham High School.
The seedings have been set for the Region 2-AAAA basketball tournament at South Effingham High School and though neither the Richmond Hill boys or girls finished the regular season well enough to earn first-round byes, both are hopeful of advancing to state.
Both Bryan County High School basketall teams will head into the Region 3-A tourney with wins under their belt. The No. 3 ranked Lady Redskins (22-3, 9-1) closed out the regular schedule with a 63-46 win over Southeast Bulloch on Saturday night in Brooklet.
