Dec. 28: Beaches and Borders tour of Tybee Island - Enjoy a two-hour exploration of the salt marshes and beaches of Tybee Island from 9:30-11:30 a.m. A naturalist guide will explain the cultural and natural history of the coastline. Church members sent in photos from Consumed Church's EPIC Thanksgiving Dinner. More than 100 people joined Consumed Church on Thanksgiving Day for its Engaging People in Community, or EPIC, Thanksgiving dinner. The food was provided by Consumer Groups, the small-group Bible study, and the United Way of Bryan County.

Boy Scouts gear up for fundraiser

Boy Scout Troop 527 has been in existence under its current charter for 31 years, and the Scouts have been doing a chicken dinner fundraiser for a large part of that time - according to Scoutmaster Mathew Brown, the fundraiser has been raising money for the troop for at least 20 years.

April 9: Yappy Hour Fundraiser - The Bark Park Association is having its monthly Yappy Hour fundraiser at Fish Tales Restaurant at Fort McAllister Marina from 6-8 p.m. A percentage of all proceeds will be donated to the nonprofit organization behind the Bryan County Bark Park. The event will include socialization of dogs and their owners with beer at $1 a cup. Dogs can drink Bowser beer or fresh water. Entry is free and well-behaved dogs are encouraged to attend. More than 70 people attended the Relay For Life Survivor Dinner last week at the John W. Stevens Wetlands Education Center, which honors and celebrates local cancer survivors while recognizing their caregivers. Food was donated by The Smokin' Pig, and decorated cookies were donated by Julie Chapman. Hanna Keith, featured in an ACS video "Hanna's Hope" that chronicled her fight with childhood cancer, was the guest speaker.The News' Shana Statham brought along her camera to document the folks who attended.
