Richmond Hill High School football fans and band members traveled to Camden County on Saturday for a preseason football scrimmage between the Wildcats and Camden County High School. The regular season starts Sept. 5 for RHHS. Bryan Browning brought his camera along to show the spirit of Wildcat fans and spirit teams.

Aug. 20: AWANA Program – New Beginnings Community Church invites children ages 4 years-old up to fifth grade to their AWANA program. See and Be Seen: Football tryouts at South Bryan County

The boys of fall are at it again. South Bryan County Recreation Department football got under way recently with tryouts, and hundreds of kids showed up to show coaches what they can do. The season begins soon for various age groups who will compete for local and state glory, the latter through the auspices of the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association district and state playoffs.

GED program offers free classes

Bryan County offers three opportunities for community members to receive their GED through free classes offered at the Pembroke and Richmond Hill Public Libraries, as well as the Goodwill in Richmond Hill. Instructor Rick Smith said these classes give the community the education and credentials needed to find college or career opportunities.

The community came out to J.F. Gregory Park last Saturday for the National Night Out event sponsored by the City of Richmond Hill and the Richmond Hill Police Department. The event included live music, free food and games for children, as well as vendors. Taylor Carpenter attended with her camera to document some of the fun.

Urgent Care Center celebrates 5 years

Last month marked the Urgent Care Center of Richmond Hill's five year anniversary. Owners and partners Dr. Robert Mazur and physician assistants Catherine Grant and Lori Gaylor opened the facility in 2009 after seeing a need in the community.

Fish Tales is staple in community

Around five years ago, Butch and Sherri Broome bought the little restaurant at the marina. Now, Fish Tales Restaurant at Fort McAllister Marina has become a successful and popular spot among Richmond Hill residents and visitors – even being awarded Business of the Year from the Richmond Hill-Bryan County Chamber of Commerce this year.

Nov. 14: Historic Savannah Foundation Candlelight Home Tour - As part of the 2014 National Preservation Conference, the Historic Savannah Foundation presents the 2014 Candlelight Home Tour. The tour of private residences in the Columbia, Warren and Washington Wards will feature the impacts of good infill, rehabilitation and collaborative planning. City Center supports community

Weddings, conferences, corporate meetings, social functions, fundraisers and parties – the Richmond Hill City Center hosts them all. But it's not just about events. Nov.6: Richmond Hill Historical Society Lecture - The Richmond Hill Historical Society will kick off the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the siege of Fort McAllister with its November lecture. A historic interpreter will take guests through the details of the final assault of Fort McAllister, "Guardian of Savannah," which allowed General Sherman to resupply his troops and take Savannah in 1864. Guests are invited to the barracks at Fort McAllister at 7 p.m. for a cup of cider and the fireside program. Cost is free for members and $5 for non-members.
