Future wizards win kiss with HAMlet
Seeing that this year's Kiss-A-Pig theme was based on a popular series of books, appealing primarily to children, it was fitting that the children representing the HOGwart's School of Glycemic Control ended up in first place. The children raised $75,000 and earned the right to kiss HAMlet the pig at the 2010 'Harry PORKer and the Blood Sugar Prince Battle for Control' campaign gala.
Mud as the great motivator
On Saturday, area residents rode hogs through town. On Tuesday afternoon, two educators took a dip in a mud bath. And it's all in the name of charity.

WW II Navy veteran headed for D.C. memorials
Hinesville resident Harold Cross, 91, said he joined the U.S. Navy in 1943. Cross said he enlisted in the Navy instead of the Army because he did not want to "fight the war from a foxhole." The former sailor said his younger brother, Merville, served in the Army.
Museum showcases student Amistad art
Deborah Robinson, director of the Historical African American Museum at the Dorchester Academy in Midway, recently commissioned a group of sculpture students at Bradwell Institute to create a collection of art work based on the Supreme Court case of kidnapped slaves on the ship Amistad. The effort to free the slaves was the first civil rights case in the United States.

Students attend Sand Gnats game
The Bryan County Middle School students got a special treat recently, attending a Savannah Sand Gnats game at Grayson Stadum. BCMS participated in the Savannah Sand Gnats Book Bugs program this semester. Students had to meet their reading goal in order to attend BCMS Game Night with the Savannah Sand Gnats
Library is all spruced up
The Pembroke Library Butterfly Garden is a project of the Pembroke Garden Club, and members meet annually to redo the garden and make it pleasing to the eye. Those who helped are were Mary Warnell, Joyce Fowler, Roger Maine, Reta Willoughby and Jean Faught. (Provided)

Cancer survivors, family members, volunteers, community members and soldiers gathered Friday night to celebrate the victories thus far in overcoming cancer, remember those taken by the disease and raise money to further research a cure.
