Fallen soldier's family honors hospice

Hospice Savannah Inc. recently served a young soldier, Staff Sgt. Jermaine Seabrook of the Warrior Transition Battalion's Bravo Company on Fort Stewart. For six months, Seabrook was cared for in his home and at Hospice House, where he died Sept. 2.

New Year traditions in the US and UK

I have just returned from a visit to the land of my birth and while it was lovely to see family and friends, I was glad to return to warm Coastal Georgia – mainly because the temperature was between 30 and 40 degrees the whole time I was in England. It went dark at 3: 30 p.m., and I only saw the sun, briefly – twice in 12 days due to cloud, rain and snow.

Pembroke raffles $300 in sporting goods

Henry Crummley of Ellabell won the American Legion Post 164's raffle for a $300 gift certificate to Southern Sportsman. Post members thank Southern Sportsman for their participation, as well as all who purchased tickets. Revenue from the raffle will help with expenses of the post home, which hosts Cub Pack 141 and the 4-H shooter program.

Holly tree honored

The Richmond Hill Garden Club has selected the holly trees in the Ways Station Shopping Center as its special "Set Your Sight on this Site" for March. These huge holly trees are not only beautiful due to their size and bright red berries, but the berries also provide food for the birds. The Richmond Hill Garden Club meets on the second Wednesday of the month September-May at the John W. Stevens Wetlands Education Center in J.F. Gregory Park. The club welcomes visitors and new members.
