Bacon family has reunion
Last month the descendants of Pembroke's first mayor, John Bacon and his wife Elizabeth Canady Bacon gathered at the J. Dixie Harn Community Center for their 10th Annual Bacon Family Reunion.

Biker gals take time to care for troops

First Baptist Church Richmond Hill's Military Spouse's Night Out is Aug. 20, from 6-9:30 p.m. It is open to any military, church member or not, deployed or not. Legion Auxiliary donates to scout troop
Boy Scout Troop 357 recently received a donation from the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 164 to help send some of the boys to summer camp. The Troop left July 4 for Camp John J. Barnhardt in New London, N.C. They returned over the weekend.
Scouts help with fundraiser at races
Members of Boy Scout Troop 357 of Pembroke were at Screven Motor Speedway recently. They were there to assist the Lions Club with a fundraiser for the Camp for the Blind as a community service project. The boys got an opportunity to visit the pits and watch the races, according to Scoutmaster Dave Williams.

Exchange Club seeking WWII vets
The Exchange Club of Richmond Hill is planning a World War II Remembrance Program on May 22. The guest speaker will be Paul Grassey, a B-24 pilot with the 8th Air Force; having flown 13 combat missions during the war.
Bill supposed to help parks, communities
The recently signed Rural Tourism Protection Act helps Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites meet budget challenges and aids communities dependent on the tourism provided by the state's parks, historic sites or outdoor recreation areas within their communities, according to state Rep. Debbie Buckner, D-Junction City, who wrote the bill.
