Wreaths for vets in Glennville cemetery

Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery will host Wreaths Across America, a holiday wreath-laying ceremony, at noon Saturday, Dec. 11 to honor and remember the nation's veterans. The Bonaventure Society, Children of the American Revolution is coordinating the event to pay tribute to veterans of each branch of the military, the Merchant Marines, prisoners of war and those still missing in action.

Lions Club recognizes Marie Smith

Longtime Pembroke Lions Club member Marie L. Smith was recognized for her humanitarian work by Lions Club International and named a Melvin Jones Fellow on Nov. 16 by Joe Bill Brannon, Lions Club district governor. Brannon awarded Smith a plaque and said the Melvin Jones Fellowship is "the highest honor that a (Lions) club can give to an individual."
