Participants sought for cancer prevention study

SAVANNAH - The American Cancer Society is seeking cancer fighters in the Savannah area who are interested in helping to spread the word about the importance of participating in Cancer Prevention Study-3, a nationwide study to help researchers better understand the genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that cause or prevent cancer.

Sugarcane fest rolls fun into history

Geechee Kunda Cultural Arts Center in Riceboro opened its museum and grounds to the public Nov. 24 for the eighth annual Sugarcane Harvest and Crafts Festival. The event offered community members an opportunity to experience native art, history and culture through food, drinks, exhibits, demonstrations and performances. The Gullah-Geechee are the descendants of native Africans who were captured and brought to Coastal Georgia as slaves.

Scouts build ramps for handicapped vets

Veterans in the city of Pembroke benefited from grant funds with handicap ramps and handicap-access rehabilitation. Beulah Baptist Church and local Scout groups paired up with the Pembroke Housing Team to volunteer labor for the projects. The groups were thanked their support.
