Hits dry up for Wildcats in losses

It was not the game most envisioned after Richmond Hill got their season off to a fast 7-1 start. That tempo has now been slowed with four Wildcat losses in a row, the latest two coming in a five inning, 10-0, region 3-AAA opening loss to South Effingham and then a 9-0 loss to the Effingham County Rebels on Saturday.

Redskins look strong despite one-run loss

The Bryan County High School Redskins Baseball team needed a boost after their disappointing loss against non-region opponent Southeast Bulloch and they got just that March 9. With a full team back in action, the Redskins scored a 5-3 non-region home game victory against Tattnall County.

Two incredibly frustrating losses were suffered by both the boys and girls RHHS soccer teams in region play on Tuesday. The boys lost 2-1 to BC in overtime, and the girls lost 2-1 to St. Vincent's in double overtime.

The RHHS boys and girls tennis raised their levels of play to defeat a stubborn Claxton team on Thursday. The girls managed a 5-0 shutout and the boys squeaked by with a 3-2 win.

Retribution was delivered to both the boys and girls RHHS soccer teams on Tuesday. Last week, they both suffered frustratingly narrow losses to rival teams, but both came back this week with victories with the girls beating St. Vincent's and the boys beating BC.

Wildcats come back to down Savannah Christian

For five complete innings on Tuesday, Richmond Hill's Scott Strickland flirted with a no-hitter against Richmond Hill's old nemesis Savannah Christian, but for five innings his teammates failed to provide him with any run support. It would take a rally in the final two innings to give the Wildcats and Strickland the 4-3 well deserved victory.

BCHS finishes third at recent meet

The BCHS boys and girls track teams had a meet on Wednesday against Southeast Bulloch and Tattnall County. Although both teams came in third, there were some strong individual performances.

Richmond Hill gets mixed results

The RHHS Wildcat Tennis Teams divided bragging rights in a non-region match on March 13. AAAAA School Glynn Academy was edged out by the boys team but defeated the girls. On Monday, Coach Pat Paruso tried an alternate line-up which had mixed results for their competition with Statesboro.

Limited red snapper season opens

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker recently approved a request by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries to allow limited recreational harvesting of red snapper in federal waters, according to Doug Haymans, policy coordinator with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

Wildlife Rescue has busy baby season

In an effort to educate the public about what to do when finding a wild animal that may be injured or orphaned, the Georgia Wildlife Rescue Association (GWRA) has released information about the numbers and types of calls that they have received on their statewide Wildlife Hotline. Barely two months old, the toll-free number has had even more of an impact than expected. Calls average between 25 per day, but the organization reports that they have received as many as 50 on some days.
