Black meets Gold

Richmond Hill capped off two weeks of spring football practice this past Friday with their annual spring "Black/Gold" scrimmage. While the Gold team, the current number one offense and number two defense edged the Black team 8-0, both sides made plays that impressed and gave their coaches reason for concern.

For a team whose accomplishments were so much a sum of all its individual parts picking out a few to bestow honors on may have been the hardest thing the Wildcats had to do this 2007 season. Last Monday night, they gave thanks to their supporters and did just that anyway.

Lady Redskins finish in top 10

The Bryan County High School ladies golf team, along with their coach Ron Lewis, made the long journey to Columbus for the Class A State Golf tournament on Monday where they took tenth place.

Wildcats fall in state playoffs

Playing one of the top teams in the state, on their own turf, in the first round of the state playoffs turned out to be every bit the challenge head Coach Mitchell Curry and his team thought it would be. The Wildcats would need to play their best baseball of the season in not one, but two of three games if they were to somehow advance past region 2-AAA number one seed Columbus High School.

Turner County downs Redskins

The Bryan County Redskins baseball team traveled to Turner County Friday for Region 3A State Competition. The Redskins had to play hometown team Turner County in a best of three series that would determine which would advance into the next series of play. The first game was held Friday afternoon. The Redskins had a total of eleven hits but that would not be enough as Turner took the 9-6 win. Redskins opened state playoffs Friday

To stay in shape for their big trip to the state tourney in Turner County, the Redskin baseball team had a scrimmage with Johnson on Monday. This season marks the first time in ten years that BCHS has earned the right to play at state.

Nunnery is co-athlete of the month

For the second month in the award's history, there was a tie for Bryan County Athlete of the Month. Two Richmond Hill High School soccer players were chosen Laura Nunnery and Brian Wood are the honorees, and coincidentally both offensive powerhouses. Nunnery is spotlighted this issue, with Wood to be featured next week.

Stacy Webb tourney is June 16 at Black Creek

The Stacy Webb Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament will be June 16 at Black Creek Golf Club. Scholarships are used to benefit the Calvary Day School Athletic Department and award scholarship money to one senior each year.

Wildcats come up short in state quarterfinals

It couldn't have been a closer match. Needing three points to win the match, Richmond Hill found themselves down 2-0 early in the bout. The Wildcats rallied and picked up the next two points to even the table. The final point went to the opposition via a hard-fought, three-set, tie-breaker game. The match went to Columbus who earned the right to compete in the Final Four. "If we played 100 times against this team we would win 50," said Coach Pat Paruso. "It was an even, fair match and we came up short."

East inks with Wingate

It's too bad that Richmond Hill High School does not sanction a swim team because, with senior Jordan East signing a letter of intent to swim at North Carolina's Wingate University this past week, this marks the second week in a row that an RHHS student has been drafted into collegiate swimming.

The varsity athletic scene at Richmond Hill High School has experienced some drastic changes this past week. New Wildcat head coaches have been signed for softball and both boys and girls basketball for the coming seasons.

RHHS football coach resigns

Josh Eads, Richmond Hill High School's football coach, has resigned, the school announced Saturday morning. A search for a new coach will begin immediately, according to RHHS athletic director Mickey Bayens, who thanked Eads for his hard work, dedication and commitment to the school.
