Lady Wildcats open season in whirlwind fashion

The first week of the season has been a whirlwind for Jodi Reagan and her Lady Wildcat softball team. Six games in six days will take its toll on any team, especially in this south Georgia heat. To their credit, Richmond Hill finished the week strong in Brunswick with a hard fought 5-3 win.

Fall means football and more at rec level

The fall sports season is gearing up to kick off on both ends of the county. Children of all ages are about to fill both recreation fields for football, cheerleading and soccer. In addition, Richmond Hill will have baseball, softball, soccer and tennis.

Accelerated curve

With only three returning starters from last year, last year's starting pitching staff gone, and a new head coach, Jodi Regan figures 2007 to be a rebuilding year for the Lady Wildcats. A sloppy, error prone loss to Bryan County on opening day seemed to confirm it. But Coach Regan said her team had a good day of practice, and she made some minor adjustments to the line-up. She then stood back and watched her team roll over three teams at Paulson Complex in the annual 3-AAAAA invitational this past week-end.

Double Gobble grabs top 10 spot in FLW tourney

"Team McNeil/Double Gobble", made up of pro fishermen and Richmond Hill businessmen Ellis Phillips, Rodney Rogers, Steve Miller and Michael Hodges took seventh place in the FLW Wal-Mart Professional Kingfish Tour in Beaufort, S.C.

Lady Redskins squeak out win over Lady Wildcats

The Richmond Hill High School Lady Wildcats made the trek to Pembroke Thursday afternoon to face the Bryan County High School Lady Redskins in the annual cross-county softball game. The Skins beat the Cats in a close 3-2 contest.

Lady Redskins open season with sweep

The beginning of a new school year also marks the beginning of the fall softball season for many returning athletes. The Ladyskins, having lost only two seniors last year, start this new season with an already established team.

Gridiron Golf Tournament, third place winners

Third place winners at Saturday's Gridiron Golf Tournament were "Team Beef 'O' Brady's," which included Doug Goolsby (captain), Charlie Johnson, Skip Youmans. Tommy Brown is not pictured. The event raised more than $10,000 for the Richmond Hill High School football program. See story on page 1B.

Rodriguez paces GRPA Wildcats

hen the summer Wildcat baseball team played the GRPA state tournament in Effingham County last month, the achievement of one player rose above the rest and earned the Cats a number two ranking for the state of Georgia. That player was Raul Rodriguez, and that performance also individually earned him the July Bryan County Co-Athlete of the Month award.
