Calvary edges Bryan County and Richmond Hill

RHHS, BCHS and Calvary had a three-way golf competition at Black Creek Tuesday. Calvary came in first with BCHS second and RHHS third.

Cross county rivals BCHS and RHHS squared off in a track meet on Wednesday which also included teams from Claxton and Effingham. The BCHS girls finished in second to Claxton, while the boys came in first place. Richmond Hill boys and girls teams both came in third place

The Richmond Hill boys and girls soccer again dominated the field on Tuesday, this time against Wayne County. The RHHS teams are on bold winning streaks which hopefully will carry over into the upcoming regional tournament.

Wildcats lock up state tennis berth

Taking out South Effingham 5-0 in this week's tennis match gave the RHHS boy's tennis team a first place seed in the upcoming regional playoff. The win assured them of a trip to the state playoffs.

The Redskins' hosted region opponent Jenkins County in a home game Friday. Due in great part to the pitching excellence of Wesley Wilkes on the mound, the 'Skins were rewarded with a 2-0 win.

Big inning propels RHHS past Cadets

Big offensive innings have been Richmond Hill baseball's forte so far this season and none was bigger than a 10 run second inning at Benedictine on Friday to make a winner of Scott Strickland (4-1) and move the Wildcats into second place in region 3-AAA. The 12-6 win improved the Cats season record to 9-5, 2-1 while the Cadets fell to 4-9, 1-3.

Richmond Hill hands out the winter sports hardware

The Richmond Hill High School Athletic Department recently honored their cross country and basketball teams with a sports banquet held in the RHHS cafeteria. Throughout the 2006-07 season, these teams have competed against some of the best teams in the state, and this event allowed the school to recognize the endeavors of these teams.

Limited red snapper season opens

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker recently approved a request by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries to allow limited recreational harvesting of red snapper in federal waters, according to Doug Haymans, policy coordinator with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

Wildlife Rescue has busy baby season

In an effort to educate the public about what to do when finding a wild animal that may be injured or orphaned, the Georgia Wildlife Rescue Association (GWRA) has released information about the numbers and types of calls that they have received on their statewide Wildlife Hotline. Barely two months old, the toll-free number has had even more of an impact than expected. Calls average between 25 per day, but the organization reports that they have received as many as 50 on some days.

Savannah man sets GA record for 205lb, 8 ounce swordfish

Brendin Page of Savannah is the newest Georgia saltwater gamefish record holder after landing a 205 pound 8-ounce swordfish while fishing offshore on May 31. Page's fish bested the previous men's record held by W.H. Lippitt since 1980 by almost 20 pounds.
