Goolsby provides the power

Although school has been out for over a month and Wildcat baseball's 2007 playoff run is becoming a distant memory, Richmond Hill's Jeremey Goolsby is taking up where his team left off. The Richmond Hill senior is tearing up the summer league circuit this off-season and has helped lead coach Sean Strickland's Summer Cats to a berth in this week's GRPA senior state tournament in Springfield - for that he has earned Bryan County News co-athlete of the month for June.

Miles shines like a diamond

While many high school varsity sports teams played numerous practice sessions and random tournaments throughout the summer month of June, only two teams played in a consistent, sanctioned summer league. Those teams were Wildcat baseball and Lady Redskin softball. Not coincidentally, a standout player from each of these leagues tied for June's Bryan County Athlete of the month award.

Lady Redskins wrap up summer league play

Head coach Kim Covington's Lady Redskin summer softball team played an away game in Mill Creek versus Statesboro High School. The first game was a 2-2 tie and the Ladyskins won the second game of a double-header 8-6. This marks the end of summer league play for the Lady Redskins as their last scheduled game, Thursday versus Tattnall County, was cancelled.

No stranger to Region 3A

Although new to Bryan County High School, Mario Mincey is no stranger to Region 3A. Prior to now, he was a boys basketball coach at Jenkins High School. Before that, he coached girls basketball at Jenkins. He is a graduate of Claxton High School.

Altman, Wildcats in training

New RHHS head coach William Altman and the new version of the Wildcat basketball team have been training over the past month. In addition to some scrimmage matches, they have participated in three camps. Altman reports that the team is looking good and is therefore optimistic about next season.

Tickets available for GSU finale

STATESBORO – After 11 games in the 2014 season, it comes down to the final one at Allen E. Paulson Stadium Saturday, Nov. 29th with a Sun Belt Championship and undefeated mark in the league on the line. In Georgia Southern's home finale against ULM, set to kick off at 6 p.m., Eagle Nation will also be saying farewell to 22 seniors who will play their last home game at "Our House."
