The Georgia Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) curriculum has historically provided students with high quality educational opportunities that prepared them to enter the Georgia workforce. While CTAE has been successful, emerging technologies and evolving employer expectations to have a highly qualified, motivated and reliable workforce demand that Georgia strategically reengineer the CTAE programs to meet the demands of the 21st century.

If you are discussing schools, it is important to define what "runs the show" means. The board approves the rules (policy, student handbook), and the superintendent enforces what the board approves. The board deals with governance - setting policies and establishing a budget to provide resources. Ferreira wins Ivey Beardslee Scholarship

Georgia Southern University has awarded the first Paul and Ivey Beardslee Scholarship to Joseph Ferreira, a 2008 graduate of Bryan County High School . Ferreira, the son of Richard and Katherine Ferreira, will begin pre-business studies at Georgia Southern in the fall 2008 semester.

New Carver Principal announced

Carver Elementary School's current Assistant Principal Crystal Morales will be the principal starting this fall. Board member Joe Pacenka thanked her for the job she's done, noting the board is "really looking forward to next year." The rest of the board members congratulated her and Morales said she appreciated all their support. Jodi Reagan will be transferring from her physical education teaching position at Richmond Hill High School to take over as assistant principal.

Scholarship winners recognized

Richmond Hill High School recent graduates Ben Botelho and Katrina McCann were this year's recipients of the Rotary Club Jay Gardner scholarship. Each will receive $1,000 per year for four years toward their college education. At Thursday's meeting, Jim Gardner, Jay's son, spoke about the scholarship. "Not only are you scholars, but you are also such great community volunteers, leaders and participants," he told Botelho and McCann. Sports equity

In March of 2000, the Georgia General Assembly passed House Bill 1308, known as the "Equity in Sports Act". This bill enacted a state law modeled in part after the federal law entitled "Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972". Title IX is a civil rights statute that prohibits discrimination based on gender.

Governor: Programming should be core class

Gov. Nathan Deal on Monday recommended the State Board of Education amend state policy to allow computer programming courses to satisfy core requirements - math, science or foreign language - for receiving a high-school diploma. Deal is asking the Board of Regents of the University System to follow suit by accepting these courses for admission into institutions of higher education.
