Scholarship winners recognized
Richmond Hill High School recent graduates Ben Botelho and Katrina McCann were this year's recipients of the Rotary Club Jay Gardner scholarship. This bill enacted a state law modeled in part after the federal law entitled "Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972". Georgia's math curriculum
In fall 2005, schools throughout Georgia began implementing a new mathematics curriculum, the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) for Mathematics. These standards were developed by master classroom teachers, district and regional mathematics leaders, and university faculty and were publicly discussed for several months. Art With A Purpose
Bryan County Anti-Drug Coalition Chairman Gini Nichols awards first place in the group's art contest to Richmond Hill High School 7th-grader Makayla Peny on May 8. Peny's prize artwork depicts a slot machine with the slogan "Don't gamble with your life." Nichols said the coalition plans to use Peny's artwork and slogan in ads and billboards.

Armstrong Atlantic State University's college of education will host a "Become a Teacher" information session from 6-7 p.m. June 18 at the Armstrong Center, 13040 Abercorn St. in Savannah.
Carver celebrates perfect attendance
G.W. Carver Elementary students Jessy Song and Gbolohan Sobowale won a raffle for two free bikes, donated by Joe Brannen of Horace Mann Insurance. The 25 students with perfect attendance for the 2012-13 school year were entered in the raffle and treated to a special ice cream sundae party on the last day of school. Each received a full-day pass to the Fun Zone Amusement Park in Pooler.
Students essay wins third place
SAVANNAH - Richmond Hill Middle School eighth-grader Avery Waters recently won third place in an area essay-writing contest on the theme of leadership skills required to succeed in school.
