Armstrong dropping 'Atlantic' from name

The University System of Georgia's Board of Regents voted Tuesday to allow Armstrong Atlantic State University to shorten its name to Armstrong State University. The name modification will take affect at the beginning of the new fiscal year, which starts July 1. Armstrong is building a new 21,000-square-foot Armstrong Liberty Center on Memorial Drive in Hinesville. The new campus is scheduled to open in summer 2015.

BCES campaign benefits United Way

The Bryan County Elementary School Student Council participated in the 2014 United Way Campaign to help raise funds for those in need. These students collected over 900 food items for the Thanksgiving food drive to help the United Way provide Thanksgiving dinners in our community. Student Council representatives also placed recycled milk jugs in all classrooms to encourage everyone to donate their change, as well as having a community lemonade stand managed by Helen Gaddis, Stacy Callahan and Taylor Flemming. These efforts resulted in $586.41 being raised for the United Way and helped the school to surpass its goal ...
