Stewart resident attends Boys Nation

Cadet 1st Sgt. Jacob M. Deem, a Fort Stewart resident, participated in the American Legion Georgia Boys State program in June and the Boys Nation program in Washington, D.C., on July 19-26. He was one of only two peer-elected state senators who represented Georgia at Boys Nation.

Stewart student wins bronze at national contest

SAVANNAH - Savannah Technical College student Shondai Dunbar-Williams, of Fort Stewart, won the bronze award at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference for nurse assisting. The win came after Dunbar-Williams won a gold medal at a state competition. At the national level, she competed with six other students in front of a panel of judges.

Armstrong dropping 'Atlantic' from name

The University System of Georgia's Board of Regents voted Tuesday to allow Armstrong Atlantic State University to shorten its name to Armstrong State University. The name modification will take affect at the beginning of the new fiscal year, which starts July 1. Armstrong is building a new 21,000-square-foot Armstrong Liberty Center on Memorial Drive in Hinesville. The new campus is scheduled to open in summer 2015.
