Patraeus to lead Mideast command

WASHINGTON, April 23, 2008 - The White House will nominate Army Gen. David H. New Iraq commander encouraged by progress

WASHINGTON, April 23, 2008 - The commander of Multinational Corps Iraq said today he is "absolutely encouraged" by the progress he has seen during his first two and a half months in the country. In his first news conference as Multinational Corps Iraq commander, Army Lt. Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III told reporters in Baghdad today that Iraqi forces are standing up to the country's enemies and said Iraqi security forces are in control of Basra.

Raider Brigade soldiers return early

About 130 soldiers with the 3rd Infantry Division's 1st Armor Brigade Combat Team arrived home from Afghanistan late Thursday afternoon. Many of them were coming home a few months before the end of the scheduled nine-month combat tour.
