Patraeus to lead Mideast command
WASHINGTON, April 23, 2008 - The White House will nominate Army Gen. David H. Petraeus, currently commander of Multinational Force Iraq, to be the next U.S. Central Command commander, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates announced today. New Iraq commander encouraged by progress
WASHINGTON, April 23, 2008 - The commander of Multinational Corps Iraq said today he is "absolutely encouraged" by the progress he has seen during his first two and a half months in the country. In his first news conference as Multinational Corps Iraq commander, Army Lt. Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III told reporters in Baghdad today that Iraqi forces are standing up to the country's enemies and said Iraqi security forces are in control of Basra.

Four fallen soldiers honored on walk
Four more eastern redbud trees have been planted at Fort Stewart's Warriors Walk, bringing the total number of living monuments to 457. The newly planted trees memorialize the service of four 3rd Infantry Division soldiers, who were honored in a formal ceremony Thursday morning.
