Deputy commander gets first star, promotion

Col. John Hort, the 3rd Infantry Division's deputy commanding general-rear, received his first star during a promotion ceremony Friday morning at Club Stewart. Hort was promoted to brigadier general by his commander, Maj. Gen. Robert "Abe" Abrams, who conducted the swearing in as a general officer via live streaming from his downrange headquarters in Afghanistan.

Emotions stir small crowd at welcome

About 50 soldiers with the 3rd Infantry Division's 24th Ordnance Company arrived home Friday afternoon following a nine-month tour in Kuwait. The soldiers were greeted on Fort Stewart's Cottrell Field by newly promoted Brig. Gen. John Hort, the 3rd Infantry Division's deputy commanding general-rear.

Plans for VA clinic move ahead

Design proposals for a permanent Veterans Affairs clinic in Hinesville were approved by that City Council during its Dec. 6 meeting. The new outpatient clinic will be at the site of the old Mills House on the corner of East Memorial Drive and East Oglethorpe Highway.
