Christ's kingdom is like a tree

In one of Jesus's parables he said his kingdom on earth offered some of the same benefits a tree offers to the birds of the air.

Where does your faith rest? Part 1

Where does your faith rest? In other words, why do you believe the things you believe about religion and why do you profess to be a part of a certain group?

Hold on to the God that has been faithful

Whether nations, peoples, tongues or churches, mankind has been challenged to walk in a manner that is pleasing and acceptable to God and avoid violating the moral and civil standards that He has set forth.

Study God's word while you can

Our televisions and newspapers have been filled recently with stories of natural disasters around the world. Our hearts go out and our prayers go up to God for those who have been devastated by these happenings. It may take years for life to return to normal for many of these families.

A signature you'll wish you had

The other day I went to the bank to deposit my check and when I handed it to the teller she handed it right back. She let me know she could not deposit it because it didn't have a signature.

Easter is over, now what

There probably are more people in church on Easter than any other time of year and probably more activities going on involving Christian ministries during the season of Lent.

Commit to pray today and every day

Prayer is one of the most essential elements of a Christian's life. To think that we can speak with the God of creation is a mind-boggling thought. But it is the truth. God has invited us to speak to him regularly. Paul wrote, "Pray without ceasing." And so we know that prayer is essential.

Following God takes life changes

If you truly desire to be close to God, you have to make some changes in your life. If you are like most people, you have been caught up with the "what's in it for me" mentality.

He is risen, let us rejoice

"He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told." - Matthew 28:6-7 - New King James Version

Commit every moment to Him

While every day is significant, the last few days have been amazingly powerful for me as I remembered the significance of living a committed life - one dedicated to God. We must reflect His unconditional love in every interaction we have. We must give more than we take, and we must remain alert with compassion for others.

Some things we need in our lives

There are many things needed in our lives in order to live. We need food and water, shelter and such. Most people spend the biggest part of their lives trying to provide these things for themselves and their families. There is nothing wrong with working to have such things as long as doing so does not become our only goal.

There will always be Sunday

Several years ago, I heard a sermon titled, "It's Friday, but Sunday's a coming." I don't remember everything about it, but I do remember where the idea came from.

Keeping Christ in Christmas, recognizing God's gift

"Then the angel said to her, 'Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus'" (Luke 1:30-31 NKJV).

Don't settle for less with the Lord

The day after Thanksgiving, we began our Christmas decorating. It always is my job to get everything down from the attic, put the tree up and put lights on it. My wife does most of the rest. I put a few decorations near the top, including "the topper." Any outside decorations usually are my responsibilities, too.

Life can be ultimate carnival ride

If you are a fan either of the Bulldogs or the Yellow Jackets, you rode that coaster hard last Saturday. In all of my years of watching football (or any other sport), I do not remember a time when a game has swung back and forth like that. Even a basketball game with a one-point difference doesn't feel like that.
