Follow the rules

Can you imagine how any of the Olympic games would be played if there was not a rule book? Every team or player would be able to do whatever they wanted to win. Chaos would prevail rather than order. Fairness would be a thing of the past. Therefore, all 35 sports and close to 400 events are governed by rules.

Respecting God's property

A week or so ago my grandson, Zion, was trying to catch butterflies while they were landing on the flowers in front of the house. My wife said to him, "Quit trying to catch my butterflies!" His response was kind of funny but full of truth when he said, "Nana, those butterflies aren't yours, they belong to God."

Faith in the face of fear

Last Sunday in Catholic Churches and in many Protestant Churches that follow the Common Lectionary, we heard from the Gospel of Mark the story about Jesus calming the storm while his disciples showed great fear in the midst of the storm.

Run a Christian race

In order to "run" in the Christian race, you must be on the team, in other words you must be a Christian. There are many people who posses Christian qualities in their life, but they have never obeyed all the rules set forth by God. They feel that they are "Christians" but their feelings do not make it so. It is like the athlete who tries out for the Olympics, but fails to meet the qualifications set forth by the Olympic Committee. He or she may feel that they are and Olympic Athlete, but they will not be able to ...

America's birthday

Yesterday was the 232nd birthday of our great country. I was a history major in college, and I focused particularly on American history. But I still have to admit something. It boggles my mind to consider the imagination and thoughtfulness it took to develop the type of government we have. There were truly a number of great leaders at work in those days.

Gods way, part 4: we will follow

As we have been looking at following "God's Way," we have seen that God's way is best, but will we follow "God's Way?"

God's way, part 3: One who almost failed

For the past few weeks we have been discussing "God's Way." When you talk to people about religion many times the words you here are, "Well I think." Before you say this you might want to see what God has to say about mans thoughts compared to His. From the beginning of time we see that someone has always wanted to change what God says. In the garden of Eden God had instructed man not to partake of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil less they die (Gen. 3:3). When Satan approached Eve he told ...

Asking for help

A few months ago our church entered into a relationship with another church in our state. They became our "mentoring" church. Hebron Baptist Church in Dacula is very large church located about 35 miles northeast of Atlanta. God has blessed their ministry in amazing ways over the last 30 years. And they have chosen to seek to pass those blessings along to other churches.

Wanting to go home

This past week I took a vacation with my wife and two of my grand kids. On the way to our destination I heard time and time again, "When are we going to get there?" After over a week being away I think the kids began to get a little homesick. On the way back I heard over and over again, 'When are we going to get home?"

In times of uncertainties, have faith

Just ask the average Joe on the street about the economy and the future and it won't take long to realize that people are full of uncertainties. We don't know who will be our next president and how it will effect our country and the world as well. We don't know how high gas prices will go or when someone is going to do something about them.

Resurrection brings hope to believers

It is the day before Easter. Almost 2,000 years ago, this was the darkest day in all of history. The Son of God had died the day before, been buried in a borrowed tomb and, along with his body, they buried the hopes and dreams of the future.
