Hearts on a mission

Dr. Joseph Rayman and Dr. Peggy Rayman, a husband-and-wife team, are passionate about their mission. The couple says they are inspired by the scripture of Matthew 28:19 to take the Gospel into African countries and train others to spread the word.

Our children need to know God

I understand this is not the type of article some people like to read. However, when we think about the state of affairs concerning our children, I believe it is necessary. Too many of our children are headed in the wrong direction. I'm grateful for all the children who are on track and doing well, but for those who are falling by the wayside, I think this is good advice.

Spring is time of coming alive

I believe spring is finally here; the temperature is rising and the birds are singing. This is my favorite time of the year mainly because there is this feeling of coming alive. Another reason I like it is because of Easter; where we celebrate a Savior coming alive after He was killed and buried for three days. The significance of this is that He now sits at God the Father's side offering forgiveness and a new life for all who will put their lives in His hands. Jesus Christ died so that those who are depressed, lonely, hurting and ...

Know how to walk with God

Recorded in Genesis 5:24 are the words, "And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him." People down through the years have read these words and asked the question, "How can I walk this way?" As in all things religious we must look into the word of God to find the answer to our question.

Parenting isn't easy; it's required

Let me begin by quoting Proverbs 22:6: "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."

God remembers you

Well, tonight is not one of my favorite times of the year. No, tonight we "spring forward." That is, we move our clocks ahead one hour so that we can enjoy daylight savings time for the next few months. I have to admit that in enjoy the sun being out later as we move through the summer. But oh how I hate to lose that hour of sleep tonight. And as a pastor I know that it will have an impact on church attendance. No matter how many reminders we get, someone will forget to move their clocks. Every year ...

Who is this Jesus?

I have a habit of reading bumper stickers; some of which I like, some that I think are distasteful, and some which I just don't get.

Contradictions

I am often amazed and amused by those who say that the Bible "contradicts" itself.

Follow the rules

Can you imagine how any of the Olympic games would be played if there was not a rule book? Every team or player would be able to do whatever they wanted to win. Chaos would prevail rather than order. Fairness would be a thing of the past. Therefore, all 35 sports and close to 400 events are governed by rules.

Respecting God's property

A week or so ago my grandson, Zion, was trying to catch butterflies while they were landing on the flowers in front of the house. My wife said to him, "Quit trying to catch my butterflies!" His response was kind of funny but full of truth when he said, "Nana, those butterflies aren't yours, they belong to God."

Faith in the face of fear

Last Sunday in Catholic Churches and in many Protestant Churches that follow the Common Lectionary, we heard from the Gospel of Mark the story about Jesus calming the storm while his disciples showed great fear in the midst of the storm.

Run a Christian race

In order to "run" in the Christian race, you must be on the team, in other words you must be a Christian. There are many people who posses Christian qualities in their life, but they have never obeyed all the rules set forth by God. They feel that they are "Christians" but their feelings do not make it so. It is like the athlete who tries out for the Olympics, but fails to meet the qualifications set forth by the Olympic Committee. He or she may feel that they are and Olympic Athlete, but they will not be able to ...

What will you do with this one called Jesus?

Over 2,000 years ago, there was this one called Jesus Christ who came on the scene in history. He preached, taught and healed the sick. Crowds gathered just to see if he was going to perform another miracle.

Become stronger with God's lessons

Dad used to tell me, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." Coach would say, "No pain, no gain." And one teacher would remark, "We learn best through adversity."

Sin can be overcome by following God's word

The Bible plainly states that all men have sinned (Romans 3:23). Sin, though not inherited, has been a plague of each generation of mankind. Each individual sins and is responsible for their sins.

Use His way to avoid devil's tricks

This week has been beautiful, and I think spring is finally here to stay. We have been fooled before with a cold front sneaking its way back in. Well, speaking of being fooled, Tuesday was April Fool's Day where many a folk were hoaxed or tricked. Most of this was all done in fun and brought much-needed laughter.

Stone movers wanted by God

"Jesus said, 'Take ye away the stone.' Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, 'Lord, by this time he stinketh, for he hath been dead four days.' Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, 'Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.' And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, 'Lazarus, come forth.' And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus ...

Come now, let us reason together: Part 2

Last week, we looked at Isaiah 1:18 and saw that God was willing to give his people an opportunity to come to their senses and turn back to him. Those people failed to heed God's warnings. Surely, man can learn from their mistakes (Romans 15:4).
