In the book of 1 Timothy, we are told that if we have food and clothes, we need to be content. This idea is far from "the American dream," in which we strive to have all our wants as well as our needs met. For most of us to be satisfied we even dictate what kind of food we eat and what brand of clothes we wear.
St. Thomas African Methodist Episcopal Church in Walthourville is a small church, but the people have large hearts and they are ready to move forward.
Proverbs 3:5 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."
How can we live a better life? Could it be that we need a better job or more money? Perhaps we need new friends?
I don't watch all of the commercials on television, but I do see some.
I have taken a different approach to my morning devotions this year.
This week marks the beginning of the Lenten period. Lent is a 40-day span before Easter that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday, which is the day before Easter. The six Sundays during this period are not counted because Sundays commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and are thought of as "mini Easters."
Elijah said to them, "I am the only one of the Lord's prophets left, but Baal has four hundred and fifty prophets. Get two bulls for us. Let Baal's prophets choose one for themselves, and let them cut it into pieces and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. I will prepare the other bull and put it on the wood but not set fire to it. Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the Lord. The god who answers by fire - he is ...
Q: Our 19-year-old daughter is dating a 19-year-old boy, who, in general, we like. He's not a partier, he doesn't smoke or drink, he's serious about his education and he has a rational career plan mapped out. Our daughter also is a responsible, level-headed girl. The problem is that the boyfriend's response to almost anything my daughter says is a cut or put-down, a dismissal of her accomplishment or mocking. She says his father does the same thing to him, his brother and their mother; so to him, it's "normal." Our daughter is an upbeat ...

No one was strong enough to subdue him. Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones. When he ...
Spring is my favorite time of the year for a couple of reasons; first, because the weather gets warmer but also because it is a time of new life.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance. Against such, there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another" (Galatians 5:13-25).

One of the leading causes of divorce (or any other disagreement or estrangement) is the lack of communication.
Mankind needs to thank God for the fact that Jesus came to Earth, died at Calvary and rose again the third day. Without the blood of Christ, no man could be saved from sin. The debt of sin is too great for man to repay, but Christ paid the debt for all men.
The Apostle Paul was the greatest missionary to walk the earth, but always was having to deal with persecution.
On Sunday evenings in recent weeks, I have been teaching on the topic of spiritual gifts at my church. I believe it is one of the most important topics facing the church today.

When Jesus came to Earth over 2,000 years ago, people had different expectations of him - if, indeed, he was who he said he was, the Messiah.
