Spring is time of coming alive

I believe spring is finally here; the temperature is rising and the birds are singing. This is my favorite time of the year mainly because there is this feeling of coming alive. Another reason I like it is because of Easter; where we celebrate a Savior coming alive after He was killed and buried for three days. The significance of this is that He now sits at God the Father's side offering forgiveness and a ...

Know how to walk with God

Recorded in Genesis 5:24 are the words, "And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him." People down through the years have read these words and asked the question, "How can I walk this way?" As in all things religious we must look into the word of God to find the answer to our question.

Parenting isn't easy; it's required

Let me begin by quoting Proverbs 22:6: "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."

God remembers you

Well, tonight is not one of my favorite times of the year. No, tonight we "spring forward." That is, we move our clocks ahead one hour so that we can enjoy daylight savings time for the next few months. I have to admit that in enjoy the sun being out later as we move through the summer. But oh how I hate to lose that hour of sleep tonight. And as a pastor I know ...

Who is this Jesus?

I have a habit of reading bumper stickers; some of which I like, some that I think are distasteful, and some which I just don't get.

Contradictions

I am often amazed and amused by those who say that the Bible "contradicts" itself.

Follow the rules

Can you imagine how any of the Olympic games would be played if there was not a rule book? Every team or player would be able to do whatever they wanted to win. Chaos would prevail rather than order. Fairness would be a thing of the past. Therefore, all 35 sports and close to 400 events are governed by rules.

Respecting God's property

A week or so ago my grandson, Zion, was trying to catch butterflies while they were landing on the flowers in front of the house. My wife said to him, "Quit trying to catch my butterflies!" His response was kind of funny but full of truth when he said, "Nana, those butterflies aren't yours, they belong to God."

Faith in the face of fear

Last Sunday in Catholic Churches and in many Protestant Churches that follow the Common Lectionary, we heard from the Gospel of Mark the story about Jesus calming the storm while his disciples showed great fear in the midst of the storm.

Run a Christian race

In order to "run" in the Christian race, you must be on the team, in other words you must be a Christian. There are many people who posses Christian qualities in their life, but they have never obeyed all the rules set forth by God. They feel that they are "Christians" but their feelings do not make it so. It is like the athlete who tries out for the Olympics, but fails to ...

Perspective and God's plan

My wife and I have been on vacation this week. We drove up to the north Georgia mountains, spending a few days just outside of Helen. I have to admit something. I love that particular part of the world. The Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina, and the somewhat smaller ones in north Georgia are absolutely beautiful places to visit. One of the reasons I enjoy the mountains so ...

God's strategy and Satan's tactics

While reading a book on business, I came across an interesting idea: A business owner should have a strategic view and not a tactical view of his or her business.

God invites you to trust Him

I believe that God is absolutely sovereign. That means that he is in control of all things, and that nothing is outside of his authority. He is the one and only God. He knows all things. He is all-powerful.

God plans for man's salvation

Mothers are joys and privileges

Eight years ago this April, my mother passed away. It has been a while since that thought has caused me to burst out in tears, but it still fills me with deep sadness. I miss her terribly. I would give just about anything to be able to hear her deep Southern drawl on the telephone again.

Heed wise words of the Master

Jesus said, "He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him; the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day" (John 12:48). Knowing how much depends on obeying his word, a study of the Bible should be important to everyone.
