What it mean to have a loving father

Sunday, June 20, we celebrated Father's Day, but the sad thing about it is there are a lot of fathers who don't take this title very seriously.

Events of Jesus the greatest in history

The crucifixion of Jesus was one of the most horrendous happening in the history of mankind, yet it showed the world the love God has for mankind (John 3:16).

Benefits abound for those who choose God's way

Recently I saw a commercial from an insurance company that indicated you can create your own policy and kind of name your own price.

A Father's Day challenge to be strong, kind

I don't remember the exact words I spoke, but very quickly one of my nephews exclaimed, "Uh oh, Uncle Brad, you have to give up your 'man card.'"

Fathers Day

Happy Father's Day! Those words are echoing through the community all morning, accompanied with breakfast in bed (Cheerio's with chocolate milk, burnt toast and hand drawn pictures of adolescent abstract art, rendered by a future Picasso) or, perhaps, with a slender box containing the world's ugliest tie. In an earlier era, when school electives carried a higher value and priority, one might receive the odd handcrafted ceramic ashtray (emphasis on the word "odd"). This Father's ...

100 years later -- Celebrating fathers

Today is dedicated to the men who sacrifice so much to provide for their families. Sometimes they go without to make ends meet. In this tough economy and times of high unemployment, these men work extra hours so their families can have food, clothing, shelter, and the necessities of life.

God's blessings can be yours

"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9).

Little these days remains the same

Have you bought your iPad yet? I have to admit that mine still safely resides at a store somewhere. For that matter, I don't even have an iPod yet. How backwards is that?

Things, life can fall apart

We moved into our present house around nine years ago. We have a circular driveway that is concrete close to the house but asphalt on both sides as it gets closer to the road coming into our cul-de-sac.

Memorial Day

In our country we have just observed May 31 as Memorial Day. How fitting it is to remember all those who have served to make sure we can have the freedoms we enjoy, and especially to remember those who have given their very lives for us. Over the years to some this special day has lost its meaning. Parents may have failed to explain the importance of the day, rather seeing it as a day ...

Be prepared to be free of pain

A few weeks back, one of our older gentlemen at the church dropped by the church. After playing softball after church the previous Sunday and running bases my body ached from head to toe. This gentleman saw me come out of the church and could see that I was moving quite slowly, then went on to say that it doesn't get any better with age. My response back to him was, "no, actually it does ...

Need wisdom? Get with God

It really was amazing how it happened. I'm not sure what he did to change. But when I was about 15 years old my dad was not very smart. He had all kinds of beliefs and rules that were old fashioned and foolish. I even got to the point that I prayed that he would get smarter and more up to date. It only took about 10 years, but that is actually what happened. By the time I was 25 he was one of the smartest men I knew. And he had not even gone to school. He just got smarter and wiser.

Mothers are joys and privileges

Eight years ago this April, my mother passed away. It has been a while since that thought has caused me to burst out in tears, but it still fills me with deep sadness. I miss her terribly. I would give just about anything to be able to hear her deep Southern drawl on the telephone again.

Heed wise words of the Master

Jesus said, "He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him; the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day" (John 12:48). Knowing how much depends on obeying his word, a study of the Bible should be important to everyone.

God shows wack back to salvation

God created man to worship and love him. He had prepared a place for man to dwell, providing all of man's needs. (Genesis 1, 2). In doing this, God allowed for his creation, man, to be able to decide to obey him or to follow another way (Joshua 24:15).
