Don't spare the rod

This cooler air moving in reminded me of a time when as a young boy I learned a valuable lesson.

God is infinite in power, love, justice

What a spectacle of God's power must have been shown during the days of creation – the shifting of the land masses, the forming of the seas and water ways, the great lights set to rule day and night to control the seasons and the years as the great designer made a world that was ready for man to inhabit; the plant and animal life formed and given to man to have dominion over them (Gen. 1:28, 29).

Find purpose and peace in the Lord

We have had some rather extreme weather in this calendar year. Back in the winter it rained and rained, and then rained some more. Then during the summer the heat was absolutely intense, and we had long periods where there was no rain.

Lets understand what we're celebrating

Never quit trying to live Christian life

The apostle Paul wrote, "Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 3:13,14).

There used to be a thing called "telephone etiquette" in our society. It seems no longer to exist.

God deserves prompt obedience

The other day my son and I were out in the boat fishing near St. Catherines Sound. We had taken along some frozen shrimp I had caught in a net earlier this month, and since I didn't want them to spoil I decided I needed to get rid of them.

You can overcome harsh words

The Bible says, in Proverbs 18:21, "the power of life and death is in the tongue." I can remember being told, as a little boy in the third grade, that I wouldn't be able to accomplish much. I was an African-American child living in the deep South. I had six siblings and a public education that ranked amongst the worst in the country. We drove around in an old station wagon. My family was poor financially, but rich spiritually and, as I grew older, I found out that I was not alone.

Listen to right one for eternal life

Many still believe the lie of Satan today; they fail to see that sin separates man from God (Isaiah 59:1-2). They fail to understand that when they give in to their desires to do wrong things, they - not God - are causing the problem.

Don't have a disappointing destination

Sunday afternoon, I was watching a football game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers. I'm not a fan of either team; the only reason I was watching it was that it was the playoffs.

Use your mind to honor God

I like books. I dearly love to read. When I was a young boy my mom took me to the local library every week. I checked out all kinds of books - mystery, sports, biography and others.

God has spoken to mankind throughout ages

Plow-burning faith can change the world

"So Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with 12 yoke of oxen, and he himself was driving the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloak around him. Elisha then left his oxen and ran after Elijah. 'Let me kiss my father and mother goodbye,' he said, 'and then I will come with you.' 'Go back,' Elijah replied. 'What have I done to you?' So Elisha left him and went back. He took his yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. He burned the plowing equipment to cook the meat and ...

Recent incidents reveal man's sinful nature

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. – Romans 13:1-2 (ESV)
