Commit to pray today and every day

Prayer is one of the most essential elements of a Christian's life. To think that we can speak with the God of creation is a mind-boggling thought. But it is the truth. God has invited us to speak to him regularly. Paul wrote, "Pray without ceasing." And so we know that prayer is essential.

Following God takes life changes

If you truly desire to be close to God, you have to make some changes in your life. If you are like most people, you have been caught up with the "what's in it for me" mentality.

He is risen, let us rejoice

"He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told." - Matthew 28:6-7 - New King James Version

Commit every moment to Him

While every day is significant, the last few days have been amazingly powerful for me as I remembered the significance of living a committed life - one dedicated to God. We must reflect His unconditional love in every interaction we have. We must give more than we take, and we must remain alert with compassion for others.

Some things we need in our lives

There are many things needed in our lives in order to live. We need food and water, shelter and such. Most people spend the biggest part of their lives trying to provide these things for themselves and their families. There is nothing wrong with working to have such things as long as doing so does not become our only goal.

There will always be Sunday

Several years ago, I heard a sermon titled, "It's Friday, but Sunday's a coming." I don't remember everything about it, but I do remember where the idea came from.

Celebrate that Jesus is alive

Easter is later this year than usual. It is very rare for Easter to come on the last Sunday of April. We have to wait much longer than we usually do. But we wait with great anticipation. We know, as Paul Harvey used to say, "the rest of the story."

Jesus will help fulfill destiny

When we think of why Jesus Christ came to earth more than 2,000 years ago, we might think of how he taught, healed or preached the good news of salvation. We might even think of how he lived a perfect life of example. All of these are important, but they are not the main reason he came.

Jesus proved it's possible to get back up

There are many obstacles we must overcome or maneuver around in our lives. Sometimes these hurdles seem like they're almost too much to handle and we feel like giving up altogether. Life can hit so hard that it knocks the wind right out of us.

Never give up, give in to Satan

When Peter penned the following words, he was being directed by the Holy Spirit to give a warning to Christians. "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world" (1 Peter 5:8, 9). While those in the world may not care about this warning, the child of God should treat it seriously.

Those who trust will live forever

This week has been a time of reflection for me. Monday would have been my mom's birthday. Thursday marked the day she passed away. And today is the sixth anniversary of her funeral. Interestingly enough, this year those dates fell on the same days of the week as the final week of her life. I've thought a lot about Mom and life and eternity this week.

Welcome the despised, rejected

This past week, several communities across the nation held events honoring those who served the United States during the Vietnam War. Some states have proclaimed the last Sunday of every March as "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day."

Audio Bibles reach those in remote areas of the world who can't read

The audio Bible is often an add-on in a scripture-rich place such as America, where installing a smartphone application is a matter of a few clicks. But for believers in places where even a printed copy of the Bible isn't easily available, the evolving high-tech delivery of audio Bibles has become their first and only exposure to the holy book.

Hoping for one more conversation

We've lost several very good friends in the past few years, along with my mother and sister. Circumstances change with each loss, but that doesn’t mean people we have loved in our lives who have died are then gone from our thoughts. The joys of those friendships and relationships are with us as long as we have memories.
