How to walk with God (part 2)

Last week we started looking at the topic, "how to walk with God," we now continue those thoughts. God does not ask us to do the things He asked the Patriarchs to do, nor the things that were required of those under the Law of Moses. We are told to do the things that are right or necessary for us to be saved. All three time periods mesh together (Gal. 3:16 – 29).

Rain and spirituality

In the last month or so we have received quite a bit of rainfall; raining almost every day this week alone. Not long ago it was reported that we were several inches below normal for the year and believe it or not some local areas still are a little behind. (Definitely not my area.) As I listen to others talk, it seems that they understand that we need rain but they only want it when it will be convenient to their schedule.

'I want all to go'

Last year was the first year that all my family did not get to go home for the holidays. Oh I knew one day it would happen with everyone growing up and getting jobs, but still it just did not seem right to know that all my family would not be with me. In fact it made me sad.

Some good advice

One of the things I remember my father always saying to me was "unloaded guns kill a lot of people." I used to argue with him telling him that it is impossible for an unloaded gun to kill anyone since it was unloaded. He would respond with, "you know what I mean," and I did. For what he was really saying is that guns, which were supposedly empty, killed people because when they presume it so they tend to be more careless about them. I recently was putting a gun back in the cabinet and thought I remembered unloading it ...

‘I thought I saw a snake’

Tweety bird was alarmed every time she saw Sylvester the cat around her cage and said those famous words, "I tot I saw a puttycat." Well the other day as I was taking a 5 mile walk down the road and I suddenly noticed something just off of the pavement that looked like a snake. The color was right and the shape was curved just like a snake crawling across the ground. My first response was to jump away from this sight to get to a place where I could check it out. At a closer look I soon realized ...

Lessons from Vick

In the last few months Michael Vick, the Atlanta Falcons star quarterback, has gone from a sports hero to a distaste in many people's mouths. He had been accused of participating in the horrible sport of dog fighting. At first he denied that he was involved at all but recently has agreed to pleading guilty.

This leads me to my first point; there are many who deny that they have sinned and are in need of help and forgiveness. In the Christian faith this help comes in the form of a Savior, Jesus Christ, who came not only to ...

Lessons from a tattoo

The other day I was in a store and I overheard the cashier talking about her new tattoo. She was so proud of her design which she had created herself. As I looked at that tattoo and another one she had previously had put on, I wondered if some time later in her life she might regret having them put on and might want them removed. As I thought about this I was reminded of the comparisons and contrasts these tattoos had with this thing called sin.

Listen to right one for eternal life

Many still believe the lie of Satan today; they fail to see that sin separates man from God (Isaiah 59:1-2). They fail to understand that when they give in to their desires to do wrong things, they - not God - are causing the problem.

Plow-burning faith can change the world

"So Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with 12 yoke of oxen, and he himself was driving the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloak around him. Elisha then left his oxen and ran after Elijah. 'Let me kiss my father and mother goodbye,' he said, 'and then I will come with you.' 'Go back,' Elijah replied. 'What have I done to you?' So Elisha left him and went back. He took his yoke of oxen and slaughtered them. He burned the plowing equipment to cook the meat and ...

Recent incidents reveal man's sinful nature
