April an important time for Christians

It is April and for those of us who are Christians this is a very important time in the church calendar. Lent is almost over. Holy week has begun and soon we will celebrate Easter. Easter is that time when we remember the one thing that set our faith far above all others religions. Christians have a risen savior who is the son of the living God. Luke 24: 1- 12 records the event as follows:

As Easter approaches, what will you do with this one called Christ?

This next Sunday we celebrate what is traditionally known as Palm Sunday. This commemorates the time in scripture where just a few days before Christ's crucifixion he was seen riding a donkey through Jerusalem with the crowds wanting to crown him as king. Many threw their outer garments and palm branches on the ground in front of him signifying their willingness to submit to his authority and to acknowledge him as their leader sent from God the Father. They shouted words of praise and adoration. Many were there that day because they wanted to be part of the crowd ...

More on the importance and weight of words

Last week we talked about the importance of words. We need to be aware of how we use words. They are both able to build up and to tear down.

Consecration

II Corinthians 5:14, 15: "For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again."

God has always had a plan for us

God has always had a plan for mankind. When He created the earth he did so in such a fashion that the world was ready for man to inhabit. Later when man sinned God had a plan to save man.

Sometimes we make things harder than they are

This past Sunday we showed the movie, "Facing the giants." In preparation for this movie we had to hook up the DVD player and run it through the LCD projector which should have been a simple task. We could get the sound but no picture thinking the whole time that we had everything hooked up right.

Let the sun (Son) shine in

The place where I live has a whole bunch of trees in the yard. When we first moved in we had satellite television installed but a couple of years ago the experts said that we could no longer get a signal because of too many tree branches in the way (it's a miracle that we ever did receive a signal). The trees have also caused some problems. I planted some small citrus trees and some blueberry bushes but am having problems getting them to grow because of one key problem; the sun cannot get through. I have taken out ...

Get to heaven from here

Knowledge is defined as awareness of facts, truths, or principles. In order to gain knowledge about the gospel of Christ we must be taught about Him, and what He has done for us. Isaiah 53 shows us what Christ has done for us. From that we can know He gave Himself to die for us.

All need to believe God

As Jesus was concluding what has become known as the "Sermon on the Mount", He said, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof" (Matt. 6:33, 34). In this we are told to put God first in our lives, and not to concentrate all our being on the physical things of this life. Yet often we see people making money and ...

The value of human life

One of the greatest joys I have as a pastor is to see a new baby with its mother in the hospital. I often visit the hospital, and that can be a difficult task. Most people who are in the hospital are either sick or in pain. But the birth of a baby (while a painful process) is always a joyful moment.

Life is like a puff of smoke

The Bible tells us that life is like a puff of smoke; here today but then gone tomorrow. Even if we would live to be 100 years old, that is still a short time compared to eternity.
