Stand for something greater than yourself

The Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ was founded in 1919 in Columbus, Ohio, by the late Bishop R.C. Lawson. His teachings still hold true today. He penned the following:

Just thinking of Heaven, part 2

The Hebrew writer spoke of heaven as entering into a rest. "Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. For we which have believed do enter into rest … There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own ...

Transforming your life isn't meant to be easy

A group in our church recently finished a course on money management. We watched video clips of Dave Ramsey, read his book, and completed homework assignments each week.

Whatever the weather, God will be there

The other morning as I was driving through Richmond Hill, I noticed a pleasant sight to my left; it was what I can refer to as not Savannah's famous "waving girl" but Richmond Hill's own "waving man."

Just thinking of Heaven, part 1

The word of God is a one of the great blessings mankind has been given. God explains to man how he came to be, how to live, and how to prepare for eternity. In the pages of holy writ we are told of just how "wonderful" heaven will be.

Now that Easter is over, what's next?

This past week people all around the world celebrated the holiday or Holy Day of Easter. For some it is just time off work or an opportunity to be with the family but for Christians it is a time to commemorate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is to this last group that I wish to address this writing.

Life takes the flavor we give it

Spring is alive all around us. The beauty is evident in the blooming trees and azaleas. It is a wonderful time to live in south Georgia! Unless, of course, you have allergies. Mine stay under control most of the time, thanks to the miracles of modern medicine. But I know what it is like to be so clogged by the pollen that I can't smell a thing. And when you can't smell anything, you can't taste anything. And quite frankly it's hard to enjoy all of the beauty when you feel miserable.

Learn from the eagle

God has put His personal touch in every part of His creation. All creation exhibits His handiwork. Man is the most beautiful and precious of God's creations. God gave man a soul, awareness, reasoning and abilities. He also gave man his own will.

Follow God's instructions

On many occasions we buy something that requires assembly. Inside the box is a booklet telling the name of all the parts and how they fit together. In most cases this booklet is placed aside because we know how to put things together. After several minutes of things not fitting together and having parts left that we are pretty sure should have been used, we reach for the booklet, read and then follow the instructions. To our surprise all the pieces were gone and the item looked just like its picture on the box.

Find the difference Easter can make for you

Easter weekend is upon us and for some this is just a secular holiday; time to have fun, be off work, and be with the family.

The most important day of the year

Tomorrow, in churches all around the world, Christians will celebrate the most important day of the year. We will celebrate Easter. We will celebrate Resurrection Sunday! We will sing songs, and read Scripture, and pray, and give honor to the One who was raised from the dead some 2000 years ago.

Happy Resurrection Day

Today we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord. Easter is a very wonderful time of rejoicing for Christians because the death, burial and resurrection of Christ Jesus are fundamental beliefs. The very fact the Christ died as a ransom for our sins gives us reason to reflect and rejoice during this season. However, when we remember that God raised Him from the dead so that we could be saved, we should explode with joy and be exceedingly glad.

Women's retreat chance for praise, fellowship

The idea of getting away from the everyday hustle and bustle of life is always exciting. But spending a few days on St. Simons Island for a Christian retreat is both exciting and inspirational.

Thoughts inspired by Palm Sunday

Tomorrow is Palm Sunday. Just to remind you, Palm Sunday celebrates the day that Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem to great fanfare and a wonderful reception. The people lined the streets to welcome the Lord. They threw their coats and palm branches on the ground before Him, providing a sort of "red carpet" for His entrance.

Embracing the love of Christ, part 2

"A soap manufacturer and a [preacher] were walking together down a street in a large city. The soap manufacturer casually said, 'The Gospel you preach hasn't done much good, has it? Just observe. There is still a lot of wickedness in the world, and a lot of wicked people, too!' The [preacher] made no reply until they passed a dirty little child making mud pies in the gutter. Seizing the opportunity, the [preacher] said, 'I see that soap hasn't done much good in the world, for there is much dirt and many dirty people around.' The soap manufacturer ...

Know the truth through Jesus Christ

I'm sure you have seen the commercial at some point. She says, "It has to be true. I read it on the Internet." And then she meets her date -the "French supermodel." And you chuckle because you know someone who is that naïve.
