We've all heard the saying "Timing is everything" - and, apparently, it is when it comes to dropping food on the floor and then picking it up and eating it.
I'd like to take just a moment this week to thank all my readers out there who've been so kind and complimentary to me since I began writing this column a year and a half ago. People regularly call, email and stop me in public to praise my writing and tell me they enjoy the stories I tell, and that means so much to me. I'm grateful to you all for your willingness to step into my chaotic, messy, unpredictable world each week, if only for a few minutes. In addition, I've received some good advice ...
These are hard times for Congress.
Editor's note: Memorial Health University Physicians will have free diabetes screenings from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Richmond Hill Family Practice on Highway 17.
Editor, I moved to Richmond Hill in 1995. I built a house in Mulberry subdivision on Flint Creek Drive. My house overlooks a creek that backs up to the trail in J.F. Gregory Park. During the winter when the leaves have fallen, I can see most everyone running the trail from inside my house.
Last week, I was at the sausage-making plant better known as the Georgia General Assembly. I was there for a good cause.
For our great nation, the symbol of our hard-fought freedom is our flag. I believe our flag should be flown with respect for our forefathers, the veterans and current servicemen and women who protect our freedom, and as a reminder of what we stand for as a nation.
March 10 - We headed into the home stretch and, as always, things started to get hectic at the Capitol.
My husband and I are about to make our first big purchase since Reese joined our family. Don't get me wrong - with the amount of clothes, food and miscellaneous supplies a baby needs, a trip to the local big-box discount store does, on occasion, makes me feel like I've been taken to the cleaners. Technically, though, I think our seemingly imminent acquisition of a new vehicle would count as our family's first major expenditure, post-child.
Most husbands, if they carry a photo of their wives, like for it to be one of glamour and beauty. That would not be my husband.
I just finished reading a short article about a high school sophomore from St. Paul, Minn. Malik Stewart was competing in the finals of the state wrestling tournament and lost the match to Mitchell McKee.
Editor, I believe our country is at a crossroads that will determine the course of our future. As we stand at this fork in the road, I find myself frightened because I do not trust that those who are choosing our path as a nation will fight for myself and other vet-
At a public gathering the other day, someone asked me how I'd sum up my views on Congress.
Editor, While scrolling through the Chatham County Sheriff's website recently, I found it quite interesting the number of people who were pulled over and arrested for operating a vehicle without tail lights.
The scene: I-16 near Dublin.
Editor: Every decision by voters should be taken very seriously. It's our role as active citizens in this republic. This year, we have rare open seats for the U.S. Senate seat and our coastal Congressional seat. Our home front faces incredible challenges from a weak economy and illegal immigration to a lack of an energy policy and a broken healthcare system. Add to this a volatile world from the middle east to China and Russia and enemies circling America and Israel.
Editor; As a small business owner, a longtime resident of the area, and the former campaign manager for third-place finisher John McCallum, I am very interested in the current campaign to replace Jack Kingston. I believe that Buddy Carter is the right choice for my fellow voters in the First Congressional District.
As a matter of course and of principle, we generally support laws enacted to make our world, particularly our water and air, cleaner and safer for human needs.
We Americans are trapped in a political dilemma. We all like representative democracy, but we don't much like the way it's performing.
Editor; Since 1993 Jack Kingston has been our voice in Washington from Georgia's First Congressional District.
MOULTRIE - I have often used the written expression "go figure." It's kind of like shaking your head in mild amazement.
Summer definitely has arrived, as the temperature continues to rise.
