Sisters give gift to aid stricken children

Two Richmond Hill girls gave the gift of hair on Wednesday. Emily Fischer, 12, and her 7-year-old sister Rachel had their long brown ponytails cut off to be donated to Locks of Love, an organization that provides wigs to children who have lost their hair due to an illness. Hwy. 144 to be closed for railroad work

Hwy. 144 in parts of Richmond Hiill will be closed from 8:30 a.m. Monday, May 21 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 22 to provide railroad grade crossing improvements, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. The detour route will be Hwy. 17 to Harris Trail Road and then Timber Trail Road. Detour signs will be posted. Drivers should allow extra time for travel.

Health department issues a health advisory

The Coastal Health District is asking residents to take precautions to avoid health problems related to the smoky conditions caused by the current wildfires in Georgia and Florida. The Coastal Health District includes Effingham, Chatham, Bryan, Liberty, McIntosh, Glynn, Long and Camden counties.
