The need to help others

Cynda Schneider has been accepted into Operation Crossroads Africa's 2007 program. After three days of orientation and training at Adelphi University in New York, she and nine teammates from the United States and Canada will spend seven weeks in the rural area of Eastern Ghana, living and working side by side with members of the African village of Marfokrom. Projects this year include teaching primary school children who cannot afford the books and uniforms required to attend government sponsored schools, constructing a two-room school and hut, and generating income for the community by harvesting and processing corn and cassava.

Hwy. 144 to be closed for railroad work

Hwy. 144 in parts of Richmond Hiill will be closed from 8:30 a.m. Monday, May 21 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 22 to provide railroad grade crossing improvements, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. The detour route will be Hwy. 17 to Harris Trail Road and then Timber Trail Road. Detour signs will be posted. Drivers should allow extra time for travel.

Health department issues a health advisory

The Coastal Health District is asking residents to take precautions to avoid health problems related to the smoky conditions caused by the current wildfires in Georgia and Florida. The Coastal Health District includes Effingham, Chatham, Bryan, Liberty, McIntosh, Glynn, Long and Camden counties.

RHPD searching for missing/endangered person

The Richmond Hill Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating Timothy Jaskiewicz. He last was seen on Monday, Feb. 16 in the Richmond Hill area and may be driving a dark-red 2002 Toyota Tundra with the Florida tag BDZN21.
