One of largest ships visits Savannah
SAVANNAH - The Georgia Ports Authority welcomed the largest vessel ever to call on the Port of Savannah last week when the 8,500-TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) M/V CMA CGM Figaro docked at the Garden City Terminal.
Contract for foundry access awarded
Liberty County Development Authority board members met Monday to withdraw the panel's vote to have Griffin Contracting work on the utilities portion of the new Firth Rixson facility in Tradeport East.
Foundry applies for air discharge permit
State environmental officials are expected to act next month on a permit that would allow Firth Rixson Forgings to discharge 80 tons of particulates, including mercury, from its plant in the Tradeport East Business Center.
Contract for work around Firth Rixson debated
During a Liberty County Development Authority meeting on Tuesday, officials decided on a construction company to receive a contract to develop utility lines and an access road at the Firth Rixson foundry in Tradeport East.

ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor reported this week that the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined slightly to 9.9 percent in July, down one-tenth of a percentage point from a revised 10 percent in June. This is the 34th consecutive month Georgia has exceeded the national unemployment rate, which is 9.5 percent.
Port study: Diesel additive adds fuel efficiency
SAVANNAH - The Georgia Ports Authority's Executive Director Curtis J. Foltz announced last week that the GPA's diesel additive study yielded a five-percent reduction in fuel consumption, as well as decreased emissions.

Governor says jobs, investment increases
ATLANTA - Gov. Sonny Perdue announced this week that both jobs and corporate investment increased in Georgia during the state's fiscal year 2010 as a result of the marketing activities of the Georgia Department of Economic Development. Companies invested $3.75 billion in communities around the state, a 46.7 percent increase from 2009, and created 19,462 jobs, an increase of 14.7 percent.

Statesboro plant to create 400 jobs
STATESBORO - Great Dane Trailers will bring 400 jobs to Statesboro. A new manufacturing facility set to be built will bring the jobs over the next four years. Gov. Sonny Perdue says it's a $33.5 million investment.
Heritage Bank hires new CFO
James M. Floyd Jr., president and CEO of Liberty Shares, Inc. and The Heritage Bank, announced recently that Philip F. Resch has accepted the positions of chief financial officer for both companies. He took over the posts in July.
