MOULTRIE - A pioneer in the Vidalia sweet onion industry, Robert Dasher of G&R Farms in Glennville has been named the 2010 Swisher Sweets/Sunbelt Expo Southeastern Farmer of the Year. The announcement was made recently during the Willie B. Withers luncheon at the 2010 Sunbelt Ag Expo farm show in Moultrie.
Developer sets aside 5,000 acres
Plum Creek Timber Company cinched a "plum" deal Wednesday when the corporation formally set aside 5,285 acres into a conservation easement here in Liberty County.

Restaurant opens in Quality Inn
Richmond Hill Mayor Harold Fowler helped cut a ribbon to mark the grand opening of Renee's Restaurant, located in the Quality Inn on Hwy. 17. Renee's is open from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m. for breakfast, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for lunch and 5 to 9 p.m. for dinner seven days a week.

Plans move forward on industrial park
Richmond Hill might be close to annexing a 1.4-square-mile swath of land near the intersection of Belfast Siding Road and I-95, a move that is the first step to building an industrial park that promises jobs and tax revenues for the area.

Heating bill assistance available
The Coastal GA Area Community Action Authority, Inc. will assist eligible households with heating bills starting Monday, Nov. 1. Residents who are homebound or elderly - age 65 or older - will receive first priority. Also individuals who have life-threatening medical conditions and have had their electricity disconnected may apply. All other eligible families may apply starting Dec. 1. Payments will be made directly to the home energy supplier.
AT&T names area external affairs director

United Way offers help to families
SAVANNAH - Through the Georgia Fresh Start program, United Way of the Coastal Empire partnered with the Salvation Army to provide more than $300,000 in financial assistance to more than 900 people in Liberty, Bryan and Chatham counties. This one-time financial crisis assistance, up to $3,000 per household, was distributed to low-income families facing critical situations due to a loss of income or unfortunate economic circumstances.
New, large employer signs training pact
The Liberty County Development Authority hosted the official signing of the training agreement between Firth Rixson Forgings, LLC, and Georgia Quick Start during a ceremony Thursday. Under the agreement, 200 jobs reportedly will be created at the new Firth Rixson plant in Midway.
