Statesboro plant to create 400 jobs
STATESBORO - Great Dane Trailers will bring 400 jobs to Statesboro. A new manufacturing facility set to be built will bring the jobs over the next four years. Gov. Sonny Perdue says it's a $33.5 million investment.
Heritage Bank hires new CFO
James M. Floyd Jr., president and CEO of Liberty Shares, Inc. and The Heritage Bank, announced recently that Philip F. Resch has accepted the positions of chief financial officer for both companies. He took over the posts in July.
Free workshop on business finances

Sea Island Co. files for bankruptcy
SAVANNAH - Sea Island Company has filed for federal bankruptcy protection with a plan to sell its luxury resorts that have been secluded getaways on the Georgia coast for wealthy travelers and American presidents since 1928. The family-owned company filed a Chapter 11 plan in federal court Tuesday, saying it's unable to repay more than $600 million owed to to lenders including Synovus Bank, Bank of America and Bank of Scotland after the economic meltdown ...

Ports handle record number of containers
SAVANNAH - Georgia Ports Authority Executive Director Curtis J. Foltz announced Monday that the GPA handled more than 2.63 million twenty-foot equivalent unit containers, added new services and maintained its position as the fourth-highest-volume container port in fiscal year 2010.
Savannah Tech hosts marketing seminar

Extended unemployment benefits OKed
ATLANTA - State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond announced Thursday that federal extended unemployment insurance benefits are now being paid to 90,994 jobless Georgians. The benefits were enacted by Congress and signed by President Barack Obama last July 22. The law extends the qualifying time for eligible recipients from June 2
Jobless rate up in area in June
ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor reported recently that the preliminary unadjusted unemployment rate in metro Hinesville rose to 8.9 percent in June, up eight-tenths of a percentage point from a revised 8.1 percent in May. Meanwhile, the number of unemployed workers in the metro area increased to 2,900, up 240 from 2,660.
Georgia job loss second in nation
The Georgia Department of Labor reported July 20 that the preliminary unadjusted unemployment rate in metro Savannah rose to 8.8 percent in June, up five-tenths of a percentage point from a revised 8.3 percent in May. Meanwhile, the number of unemployed workers in the metro area increased to 15,397, up 837 from 14,560.

One of the world's largest hotel companies now is managing 76 Army lodging hotels on 39 installations, including Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield, according to Arthur Holst, vice president of operations for Intercontinental Hotels Group.
State revenue up 13% in April
Gov. Nathan Deal announced Wednesday that Georgia's net tax collections for April 2013 totaled $1.73 billion, an increase of $201 million, or 13.2 percent, compared to April 2012.
