Executive chef named at City Center

John G. Wilderman, resident of The Wilderman Group, announced the appointment of Kermit W. Griffin as executive chef at the Richmond Hill City Center. Georgia joblessness at record 10.5 percent

ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor reported Thursday that the preliminary unadjusted unemployment rate in metro Hinesville remained unchanged at 8.8 percent in February from a revised 8.8 percent in January. Meanwhile, the number of unemployed workers in the area increased to 2,890, up 34 from 2,856 in January.

NeSmith reaches out to youth baseball

Mike Reed, general manager of NeSmith Chevrolet in Hinesville, recently announced that the dealership is partnering with the Liberty County Recreation Department and Fort Stewart to provide athletes and coaches with baseball equipment, instructional clinics, a monetary donation and an opportunity to raise an additional $10,000 through a Chevy vehicle giveaway fundraiser. The effort by NeSmith is part of the Chevy Youth Baseball initiative, a nationwide campaign that runs through July.

State using federal money to spur jobs

ATLANTA - State human services officials will use more than $200 million in funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act as an incentive for private- and public-sector employers to hire 20,000 Georgians this summer.

The department is offering huge incentives to employers under two programs, TeenWork, which seeks to hire 15,000 teens this summer, and Jobs for Georgia, which will provide incentives for employers to hire 5,000 adult workers.

Hinesville Pharmacy, formerly Whitman Pharmacy, has opened its new location at 481 E.G. Miles Parkway. The Liberty County Chamber of Commerce had a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony March 2 with 60 chamber members in attendance. The new pharmacy is directly across from Liberty Regional Medical Center. The newly namd Hinesville Pharmacy will maintain the same ownership and staff.
