Jobless rate up in area in June

ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor reported recently that the preliminary unadjusted unemployment rate in metro Hinesville rose to 8.9 percent in June, up eight-tenths of a percentage point from a revised 8.1 percent in May. Meanwhile, the number of unemployed workers in the metro area increased to 2,900, up 240 from 2,660.

Georgia job loss second in nation

The Georgia Department of Labor reported July 20 that the preliminary unadjusted unemployment rate in metro Savannah rose to 8.8 percent in June, up five-tenths of a percentage point from a revised 8.3 percent in May. Meanwhile, the number of unemployed workers in the metro area increased to 15,397, up 837 from 14,560.

June jobless number not encouraging

ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor reported Thursday that the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined to 10.0 percent in June, down one-tenth of a percentage point from a revised 10.1 percent in May. This is the 33rd consecutive month Georgia has exceeded the national unemployment rate, which is now 9.5 percent.

Midway native passes bar

Alicia LaVon Mullice, a 2010 graduate of Atlanta's John Marshall Law School, completed the requirements for her degree in December 2009.
