With a new hurricane season approaching, new changes for how and when warnings are issued as well as new assessments of Liberty County's hurricane-prone coastline will affect how residents prepare for storm-related circumstances. Hurricane season began earlier this month, with peak activity expected between September and October.
With the school year coming to an end, Memorial Day weekend approaching and summer festivities about to kick into high gear, officials at the Governor's Office of Highway Safety say they want people to be safe in their travels.
County law enforcement and animal control officials on May 11 rescued more than a dozen dogs and puppies that had been living alone in a Wellington Oaks subdivision home in Richmond Hill. Fred Scott has since been charged with three counts of animal cruelty after 14 dogs and puppies were removed from his abandoned 179 Lindsay Drive home. May is the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's motorcycle safety month, and transportation officials are reminding riders to stay safe while enjoying their rides.
ATLANTA - Gov. Sonny Perdue has appointed two members to the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles, clearing the way for executions and clemency hearings to continue.
Perdue appointed Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice Commissioner Albert Murray and Republican state Rep. Terry Barnard to the five-member clemency panel. He is also recommending that current pardons board member Garland Hunt take Murray's former job.
Simple battery, April 23 – Deputies responded to a fight in progress on Black Creek Church Road in Ellabell. A resident there told Deputy Ernesto Nieves that a neighbor's son had called him over to the property fence line to talk. When the resident got to the fence, the neighbor's son allegedly slapped him with an open hand on the left cheek and then fled the scene in a gray car. A witness said she saw the resident get called over to the fence but did not see him get slapped. The resident was advised of the warrant process ...
April 10 – Officers responded to Papa's Pizza To Go, where a potential customer called to place an order for 1,200 chicken wings for a wedding. The customer called through an interpreter service for the deaf, so there was no actual verbal contact between the business and the caller.
