ATLANTA - Gov. Sonny Perdue has appointed two members to the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles, clearing the way for executions and clemency hearings to continue.
Perdue appointed Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice Commissioner Albert Murray and Republican state Rep. Terry Barnard to the five-member clemency panel. He is also recommending that current pardons board member Garland Hunt take Murray's former job.
Simple battery, April 23 – Deputies responded to a fight in progress on Black Creek Church Road in Ellabell. A resident there told Deputy Ernesto Nieves that a neighbor's son had called him over to the property fence line to talk. When the resident got to the fence, the neighbor's son allegedly slapped him with an open hand on the left cheek and then fled the scene in a gray car. A witness said she saw the resident get called over to the fence but did not see him get slapped. The resident was advised of the warrant process ...
April 10 – Officers responded to Papa's Pizza To Go, where a potential customer called to place an order for 1,200 chicken wings for a wedding. The customer called through an interpreter service for the deaf, so there was no actual verbal contact between the business and the caller.

Obstruction, March 15 – Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Beaulah Church Road. They arrived and spoke with a man who said his cousins were fighting each other and that deputies better "calm them down."
A suspect was apparently killed by a bullet fired by authorities Monday afternoon shortly after 4 p.m. The man was later identified as William Gordon by Special Agent Micah Ward of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations who has taken over the case.
A car chase on Hwy. 204 in Ellabell last week concluded with an overturned vehicle, DUI charges and both the driver and passenger being hospitalized, according to a report on file with the Bryan County Sheriff's Department.
Gov. Nathan Deal, Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and House Speaker David Ralston on Jan. 10 received the 2013 report from the Georgia Council on Criminal Justice Reform. Building on the success of the criminal-justice reform passed in the 2012 and 2013 sessions, the council primarily focused on potential reforms to help rehabilitated offenders re-enter society.
