Note to Georgia Southern fans; Forget Alabama, this is what really matters

I know, I know. Everybody in Georgia Southern's passionate fanbase is geared up about Saturday's game at Alabama. Me included.

Reclassification coming next week

Looks like reclassification will happen after all. After months of talk, then a lot of silence, there is again movement. The AJC (Atlanta Journal Constitution for those who might not know) is reporting in its Prep Zone blog that the Georgia High School Association reclassification committee will meet Wednesday to place the state's 440 member high schools into one of six classifications. After that, schools will have to decide whether they want to play at ...

Thoughts on chants at a football game

My dear wife, who hasn't been to a high school football game in years, was at first appalled when I told her what some young Richmond Hill High School fans chanted loudly during Friday's game against South Effingham. Then she got mad. "I can't believe they said things like that. Those should be fighting words," she said. "That's just mean." You know what I'm talking about if you were there: I could hear it from ...

Unbeaten, untied and unbelievable

In case you haven't noticed, both high school football teams in Bryan County are unbeaten. That's right. They're 3-0 each, or 6-0 as a pair.

Wildcats take care of business in opener

Quick thoughts on Friday night's RHHS-Johnson game. The good: Richmond Hill looked to be the more talented and better coached team against Johnson in the season opener on Thursday. That's how a team should look in a 27-0 win. The Wildcats have a good collection of running backs and quarterback Dominique Allen looks like a good fit for the team's option oriented attack. Basically, the Wildcats took care of business. The bad: Apart from ...

Looks like it's going to be an all nighter

UPDATE: It's now 1:33 p.m. and I'm STILL working on the football previews. That makes it something like 29,000 hours straight, or maybe 28, I'm not sure. I do know I think my brain grew a mullet a little while back -I shared that on Facebook --and before restarting my computer for the umpteenth time since last night I've changed my desktop background to a photo of Steve Taneyhill taunting Clemson fans after the Gamecocks pulled an upset back whenever it was.

If my head suddenly pops

Football previews and more coming up

I know, I know. High schoo football's here. So is softball, cross country and volleyball. I'm working on previews for each prep team in the county -- and putting together another special section on football. Just so you know. In addition, I'm also working on a series on girls and women in sports for the BCN. I had aimed at finishing it up over the summer, but the best laid plans often go awry, to ...
