Council buys land to solve drainage problem

Richmond Hill City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to buy 24.75 acres in the Cherokee Village area for $69,000 in hopes of easing what councilman Russ Carpenter termed "major drainage problems" in the neighborhood while also becoming part of the city's master plan for sidewalks and walking trails.

Fourth on the First with the Third rocks the house at First Baptist Church, Pembroke

The 3rd infantry division band, "the Rhythm of the Marne," put on a free concert for a packed Pembroke First Baptist Church at the city's annual Fourth of July salute "Celebrating the Fourth with the Third on the 1st," Tuesday.

Dedication gets its reward

The Bryan County Emergency Services honored one of its own last week when it renamed South Bryan Volunteer Fire Station No. 3 on Highway 144, the Chief Mike Smith Volunteer Fire Station #3. Bryan County Emergency Services Chief Freddy Howell called it a fitting tribute to a man who has dedicated his life to serving others.

Pembroke Scout Troop garners awards

The Black Hawk Patrol from Troop 141 headed to summer camp June 15 for a week at Camp Frank G. Lumpkin in LaGrange, Georgia and met 18 other troops from Georgia, Florida and Alabama. Troop 141 came home with numerous honors, including three scoutmaster awards, four out of five campsite inspection awards, best gateway award, and the honor troop award, which is considered to be the hardest award to achieve.
