A Tuesday riff

A Tuesday riff Quote of the day "Poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese." G.K. Chesterton Link of the day: You've got to check this out. Hilarious. Good clean American fun. http://manbabies.com/popular OK, enough of that. It's almost been too hot to blog, lately. This because there's not A/C in this part of the BCN headquarters in downtown Richmond Hill. . Still, one makes do and drives on. Hope you all ...

Sad story

I can still remember watching as Houston led North Carolina State with seconds left, can still vividly recall the long airballt from Dereck Whittenbug, then Lorenzo Charles catching the ball aat the basket and dunking it at the buzzer -- then Jim Valvano running around looking for somebody to hug. RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - It's one of the most lasting images from the NCAA basketball tournament. A buzzer-beating two-handed dunk by muscular forward Lorenzo ...

No rhyme, no reason. Just stuff about sports

By Jeff Whitten No rhyme, no reason. Just stuff for the Sports Blog at bryancountynews.net: - If one booster club is good, five or six should be better. Or maybe not. There's evidently something of a debate going on in Richmond Hill High School circles over whether to combine booster clubs for various sports into one. Should be interesting. Might even be entertaining. - I don't care whether the NFL plays this fall or the ...

Kevin Matthews 360-dunk

Oh, poor Lebron

Never thought I'd say it, but I'm starting to feel sorry for Lebron James. Yes, he's the most physically gifted player in the NBA and makes more in a day than I earn all year. Sure, he's got millions of adoring fans (though I'm not one), so he doesn't need my pity. But for all that, he's probably the most hated athlete in the U.S. Lebron simply can't win. Five reasons I don't like Lebron ...

Back in the saddle

Just coming off six days of vacation. I only caught one fish. I did build a trellis, fix an air conditioning leak and take another trip to my wife's ancestral stomping grounds down in Arabi (population 500, maybe), so the days off weren't entirely wasted. I also made a few notes for the Sports Blog. Sports radio: Not much of a fan of sports talk radio, but thanks to Savannah's ...

Savannah Sabers

Note: I am now offically on vacation until June 3. I've yet to see the Savannah Sabers play football, but these photos from freelancer Julia Harrison show a group that seems serious about the game. They've also got some pretty sharp uniforms. And, Richmond Hill High School soccer standout Elizabeth Campbell is on the team as placekicker. What's more, Campbell, who is bound for Brenau on a soccer scholarship, went from graduating Saturday to playing ...
