The Savannah Militia Camp No. 1657 will hold a dedication ceremony of a memorial marker for Confederate soldier Elias L. Lastinger at 11 a.m., Nov. 6 at Lower Black Creek Cemetery in North Bryan.
Militia Cmdr. Don Newman will conduct the ceremony for the Bulloch County native. Lastinger was born in 1831 and died in 1864, when he was killed at the battle of Peachtree Creek in Atlanta on June 20 of that year.
The place of his internment is not known. The memorial marker will be placed at the plot of his daughter, America L. Davis.
Lastinger was the son of James Lastinger and Annis Lastinger, and he married Mary Ann Dugger, the daughter of David Dugger. The couple had five children: Daniel L., who first married Sabina Rigdon and then Roxie Campbell; America, who married John Green Berry Davis; Mary Jane; Allen T., who died young; and Elizabeth, or Lizzy, who married James A. Overstreet.
In addition to family and friends, the public is invited to attend the ceremony.
