SAVANNAH — The Savannah Philharmonic presents the second concert in its 2010-11 chamber series at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church, 54 Diamond Causeway.
This program, featuring the works of Beethoven and Rachmaninoff, will be performed by the Gee-Mackey Duo comprised of David Gee on cello, and Lynne Mackey on piano.
Gee has performed as a soloist, quartet member and orchestral cellist in the U.S., Europe and Africa. He received his instruction from Luis Garcia-Renart and from the Brazilian cellist Aldo Parisot. He received chamber instruction from the Tokyo Quartet, Claude Frank, Yehudi Wyner and others. Gee graduated summa cum laude from Purchase College where he was won the President’s Award for undergraduate achievement and from Yale University, where he was named an Ellen Battell Stoeckel scholar.
Mackey performs in solo and chamber music settings in the U.S. and Europe and currently tours as an artist for the Virginia Commission of the Arts. In addition to holding a graduate degree from The Juilliard School, she holds a doctorate from the Eastman School of Music.
Mackey is an associate professor of music at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Va., and serves as director of the Virginia Baroque Performance Academy.
