Sci-fi aficionados, gamers and comic book collectors inundated Atlanta during Labor Day weekend as the 24th annual Dragon Con rolled into town.
The multimedia conference, which featured information, workshops and products, drew approximately 35,000 visitors, organizers said.. Many attendees dressed in costumes ranging from superhero favorites such as Superman to characters from the motion picture “Avatar.”
The convention opened Saturday with a parade full of costumed marchers and an exact replica of the famous 1960s Batmobile, which was driven by none other then Batman himself.
Throughout the four-day event, attendees rubbed elbows with television and film stars, including Morena Baccarin, who stars as Anna the alien leader on TV’s “V,” and Larry Hagman and Barbara Eden, both of “I dream of Jeannie.”
Autographed photos and other signed memorabilia were available for purchase.
In the comic book world, Spiderman creator Stan Lee signed autographs and answered questions.
An entire room at the conference was dedicated to gaming. Gamers were allowed to “test drive” the latest video games, and many hard-to-find items were available for purchase.
The event is held every Labor Day weekend.
